A recent addition to island platforms, NYCTA maps are mounted in stainless-steel enclosures that are, in turn, mounted to the center of an island platform. All installations required removal and replacement of the concrete wherever they were located, so the floors below the map housings should be darkened to reflect the concrete-like material poured around their bases to anchor them. The smaller enclosure on the left is used for customer notices about service changes, etc. There are only one of these per platform, and as mentioned before, they appear only on island platforms.
