Here at Christopher Street/Sheridan Square, are two different arrangements of flourescent light fixtures. Notice how the ceiling alternates between light fixtures and public address speakers. Above the platform edge is a continuous row of flourescent lights. Not all stations are arranged like this, but all underground stations have flourescent lighting. This could be modeled with white LEDs shining into frosted strips of polycarbonate plastic.

In the Canal Street mezzanine is a clearer shot of a standard station light fixture, suspended between roof beams on threaded rods.

Emergency light fixture.
Unlike the standard lighting system, these lights contain two pairs of incandescent bulbs, and are usually mounted near (and sometimes next to) standard fixtures
